Pt. 2: Understanding the impact of trauma on the brain
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After completing Part 2, officers will be able to:
- Become aware of the indicators of trauma response, both cognitive and emotional.
- Strategize ways to make the first interaction between victim and officer as comfortable as possible focusing on trauma-informed care, including safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.
- Develop a protocol for taking the report/interviewing that minimizes the chance of re-traumatization, makes the victim feel heard, and allows for memory recall in a nonlinear/limitless way.
