Event Details

Description:

A domestic violence court is a dedicated docket that schedules all domestic-violence-related cases involving intimate partners on the same day/s and time/s. In doing so, courts recognize that domestic violence cases involving intimate partners are high-risk and present unique safety concerns. Hearing these cases at the same time allows courts to efficiently dedicate staff and resources to ensure better and safer outcomes. Join this call to learn about the Pulaski Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Virginia, a civil and criminal domestic violence court model in a rural community with one dedicated judge. The discussion will also highlight the Pulaski County’s Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT) and its role in addressing domestic violence in the community.

Presenter(s):

Hon. Lee Chitwood, Judge, Pulaski County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court

Jaime Clemmer, Domestic Violence Programs and Services Manager, Office of the Executive Secretary, Supreme Court of Virginia

Shahrazad Hamdah, Senior Program Associate, Center for Justice Innovation
